I used a Nikkor Type C 55mm f/3.5 Micro-PC Auto lens on a Nikon D50. By itself, that would damage the lens throat of the D50, and, indeed, any Nikon digital camera with an automatic focus screw drive mechanism. The Type C is an old pre AI lens but it is possible to work round the problem by interposing an M2 extension ring, which can be safely mounted on a D50.
