Santiago de Gobiendes

Santiago de Gobiendes
Santiago de Gobiendes

Santiago de Gobiendes is first mentioned in the document of a donation by Ordoño II to the cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo in 921, although its authenticity is disputed.
Due to its close correspondence with the church of San Salvador de Priesca, whose consecration date is documented for the year 921, Santiago de Gobiendes is attributed to the early 10th century. The church was significantly altered through remodelling and extensions.

The church is a three-nave basilica with a rectangular floor plan, a three-part porch and a rectangular choir, also divided into three parts. The bell gable dates from a later period.

Unfortunately the church was locked.
