Villaviciosa - San Salvador de Priesca

Villaviciosa - San Salvador de Priesca
The pre-Romanesque church was consecrated in 921. This date was engraved on a foundation stone that was lost during restoration work at the beginning of the 20th century. But not everything that can be seen dates to that time, at an undetermined time a vestry was added to the southern nave and then a closed portico that extended along the entire southern side of this nave. The bell gable in the west and an extension to the south aisle, which is used as a sacristy, are as well later additions.

In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, a fire caused extensive damage and destroyed part of the early medieval frescoes.

Unfortunately the church was locked.
