Detmold - Neues Palais

Detmold was the capital of the Principality of Lippe from 1468 until 1918 and then the capital of the Free State of Lippe until 1947 when Lippe was incorporated into the new German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Detmold has a population of about 75.000, the "Hochschule für Musik Detmold", the "Landestheater" and a castle in the center of the town.
The "Neues Palais" serves as the main building of the Detmold Academy of Music but was originally a kind of dependency of the castle.
The building was a gift from Count Friedrich Adolf (1667-1718) to his wife, Countess Amalie zu Solms-Hohensolms, and was completed in 1718. It got reconstructed and received a third floor and a flat roof in 1852.
