Stockum - St. Pankratius

Stockum - St. Pankratius
The treasure, that is hidden in the humble parish church in Stockum is this baptismal font, dated 1220/1230. To stage the jewel, a baptisterium was built in 1962. To protect the font from vandals and nosy photographers, a grill was installed in the entrance to the baptisterium - and the grill is padlocked.
What means, that the visitor is unable to walk around the font - and see the other sides. The baptismal font (0,94m high)has eight reliefs in total. Seen here the Annunciation, followed by the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magis, the Baptism of Jesus, the Crucification, a Salvator - and, seen to the left - St. Pankratius.

There are only very few photos - and I had "theory" about a connection to the baptsimal font in Freckenhorst, that is even more complex, dated - and not locked away. But, as I could not see the other carvings, I could not follow that..

Here a photo I found in the web. The Adoration of the Magi.
