Saint-Quantin-de-Rançanne - Saint-Quantin

Saint-Quantin-de-Rançanne - Saint-Quantin
The single nave church was erected within the 12th century. The church got damaged during the Wars of Religions, when the bell tower, that stood above the choir, was completely destroyed.

The facade has some extraordinary carvings. There are 23 roughly carved horse's heads. There are complex capitals - and above - a row of very fanciful corbels. I will uploud a few photos.

A person with a forked beard. Forked beards stood for evil and viscious persons. Anglo-Saxon, Norman warriors often had such a beard. Sweyn Forkbeard (aka "Sven Gabelbart") was King of Denmark and England around 1000. He was (btw) the son of King Harald Bluetooth (aka "Harald Blåtand Gormsen", after whom the Bluetooth communications protocol is named.

Are there two bells flanking the head?
