Viepri - Abbazia di Santa Maria


Near Viepri stands the Abbazia di Santa Maria, built around 1150 by the Signori de Castelvecchio. The abbey was built using material from abandoned Roman buildings.
Different construction phases can be seen from the east. The small apse is probably from the first church (1150), the massive tower must be added later. The rubbish heap is the youngest addition. Most of the former convent´s buildings seem to be inhabited. The church was locked
