Viepri - Abbazia di Santa Maria

Near Viepri stands the Abbazia di Santa Maria, built around 1150 by the Signori de Castelvecchio. The abbey was built using material from abandoned Roman buildings. Maybe some blocks came from older medieval buildings. The left of the spolia seen here looks "carolingian".

Most of the former convent´s buildings seem to be inhabited. The church was locked.
