Chauvigny - Notre Dame

A community of Canons was founded on a promontory overlooking the valley by the Seigneurs de Chauvigny around 1025

The erection of the Collegiate church up there started end of the 11th century. The church was in the center of the heavily fortified stronghold, that has a long history of sieges, lootings, captures and recaptures.

But this fortified area was not the only a part of Chauvigny, as down in the valley existed another. This part still exists all around the parish church Notre Dame, a building as well erected within the 12 century.
