To greet the dawn

I'd just finished reading an article in American Artist's 'Drawing' about Fred Hatt, a NYC artist. He works mainly, with d'Arche's aquarlle crayons on a gray or black ground.
Off and on I've tried the water soluble crayons but I could never get them to do quite what I wanted.
Well, after looking at Fred's work I tried once more and this is the result.
Not in his style but many thanks to him for the inspiration!
On 7" X 11" yellow poster board.
The figure with Staedtler's Karat Aquarell.
The background; colored pencil over a blue, watercolor, wash.
