N183AT DC-10-10 American Trans Air

"City of Indianapolis" taxies to the gate at Shannon 14/08/1984.
This was the 2nd DC-10 to be built (c/n 46501) and made its first flight in January 1971 as N101AA but was later re-registered N10DC by McDonnell Douglas.
In June 1977 it was acquired by Laker Airways (G-BELO) and named "Southern Belle". Following Laker's collapse in 1982 it moved on to American Trans Air in early '83. However, it returned to the UK register as G-GCAL with Cal-Air International in February 1986.
Finally. it was bought by Project Orbis (Flying Eye Hospital) in November 1991 and after extensive conversion work it entered service with them in June 1994 registered N220AU and is still in service in 2012.
