Battery farm

One of a number of "battery farms" that have been established around the country to supply backup electricity supplies when demand is high and generation options are limited. These businesses bid to National Grid to suppply electricity at times of peak demand or low output from other sources such as wind. This is the often hidden side of the power generation system in the UK and a consequence of changing to renewable sources for significant amounts of power supply. This new battery storage facility at Bury, Greater Manchester, comprises sixteen 1.25MW/1.25MWh lithium ion containers.
