End of the line (1 of 3).

End of the line (1 of 3).
Photographed outside Winfields (Outdoor Pursuits) store near Haslingden, UK. This old engine has been parked here for many years...it can be seen on the map in "Satellite View" if you zoom in close.

This is one of two 430hp shunters built by Hudswell-Clarke in 1959 for the Manchester Ship Canal Company. Number 4001 and named 'Alnwick Castle'. It's sister locomotive, no 4002 'Arundel Castle' is preserved at the East Lancs Railway at Bury. I don't know the story of how it got to Haslingden.

I think it probably came from the former Haslingden railway station (a few hundred yards from it's present location) which closed in 1960.
