The Sunday Challenge: De buurt

Uitzicht op het kunstmatige eiland Wittenburg over de Kattenburgervaart. Links het uitzicht van rond 1950, rechts het huidige uitzicht. Er is heel veel veranderd in de afgelopen 72 jaar, met name in de jaren 1970 en 1980. De protestantse Oosterkerk (links) is gerestaureerd, de protestantse gemeente is al jaren geleden verhuisd en gefuseerd met andere gemeenten. De kerk is nu in gebruik als buurthuis en er zijn van tijd tot tijd ook kerkdiensten. De katholieke Annakerk (linker foto, midden) is gesloopt. Het gebouw van de bierbrouwerij De Parel (rechts) is gerestaureerd tot appartementen.

Alle andere gebouwen, zowel krotwoningen als industriële gebouwen, hebben in de jaren 1980 plaats gemaakt voor sociale woningbouw, waarvan inmiddels ook al een groot deel is verkocht. Hoe zou het er over 75 jaar uitzien?

A lot has changed in the past 72 years, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. The Protestant Oosterkerk (left) has been restored, the Protestant congregation moved and merged with other congregations many years ago. The church is now used as a community centre and there are also church services from time to time. The catholic Annakerk (left-hand photo, centre) has been demolished. The building of the brewery De Parel (right) has been restaurated to apartments.

All the other buildings, both mostly houses of questionable quality and industrial buildings, made way for social housing in the 1980s, much of which has since been sold in the last 20 or so years. How will it look like in another 75 years?
