It's all about the eyes

LOL, a totally blown-out photo with a rather painted look to the background. However, it's NOT a Chickadee or Nuthatch and it's NOT a mushroom - so be thankful (that includes you, too, Phil, if you happen to see this. After our conversation this morning, I didn't dare post any of those three subjects, ha, ha). I don't often get the chance to shoot a Hairy Woodpecker, but this female flew down to a nearby log the other day, a bit too close to where I was standing. You have to love the eye pattern and those nasal tufts that keep little bits of tree from entering the nostrils while she's "pecking".
