After having shown pictures of the Lake District I stumbled across these pictures from Wales. Friends of mine have a house there and we stayed over a weekend. No, this is not the house - although it is also quite old - about 500 years or so. ;-)
These are the ruins of the priory of Llanthony which was built in the 12th century. Wiki knows more about it, of course!

(I mention this because he's one of my favourite painters - and I just found out myself that Llanthony was one of his motifs).

Ich hab's mal oberflächlich gegoogelt... Während das Herrenhaus von Llanthony offenbar ziemlich von Geistern besetzt war, hat das Abbey wohl nicht so viel abgekriegt. Jemand anders schrieb im Internet, dass sie Geister en masse erwartet habe, aber nichts sei bei den Nachforschungen herausgekommen ausser einer gutgesinnten Erscheinung eines Mönchs.

Wie gesagt, Llanthony Secunda Manor hat da mehr zu bieten - aber das ist ziemlich weit von Llanthony Abbey entfernt:
