Mt. Davidson Cross

(for those of you who are interested in seeing my San Francisco trip images, I have uploaded 10 pictures in this batch [11 yesterday]). Thanks everyone for your comments and your visits to my photostream! I hope you enjoy the show!
The cross at the top of Mt. Davidson isn't very fancy, but it is very tall and spectacular! There used to be illegally placed climbing spikes leading all the way to the top so that those who were bold enough could climb up to the top, provided they had proper climbing gear. On top there is a rusty lunch box with a note book inside for people to sign their names. I have never climbed up there, but one of my brothers and his friend did! I would be too terrified to do such a thing but this feat would be a memory to last a lifetime!
Every Easter, there is a special service held here, and it's caused lots of controversy over the years. At one point there was pressure to remove the cross, but thankfully this didn't happen. Whether or not you are religious, this cross is an amazing monument to behold and it would be a tragedy to lose this very special landmark. It can be seen from across the city on a clear day!
This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.
(Note to Flickr folks: I do try to keep my uploads to only 3-5 pictures at a time, but I have too many pictures to keep to that number. So instead I'm letting people know how many I've uploaded in case they want to see them.)
