Common Wood Nymph

This image is a little grainy but I thought it was nice enough to post...I finally got a picture of one of these butterflies! They tease me by almost landing before flying off again and I think I hear them laughing at me the whole time. When they DO land, the second I get within range of taking a picture, off it goes again, followed closely by a stream of annoyed comments from me. And this is why I'm so happy about this picture! I took it on top of the ridge of our property in Southern Oregon, on July 21, 2011
