Western scrub jay fledgling.

Western scrub jay fledgling.
Aphelocoma spp., probably Aphelocoma woodhouseii. In our front yard by our house; the green coils are a garden hose. This little guy evidently fell out of the nest and so far has survived several days. Hopefully his feathers grow out so he can fly.

One thing we don't have much trouble with here is feral cats, due to the coyotes! Of course, he needs to avoid them, too! ;)

Thanks, everyone! Turns out birds don't have to be "taught" to fly--it's instinctual--so if his feathers grow out in time he should be OK. We've read lots of places that you shouldn't try to pick them up, because then they _will_ be abandoned, so we've just stayed out of the way.
