The Airing
What babies did in the old days in England.
Stuck out in a pram, "taking the air." : )

Isn't it funny? (My daughter in laws love that show, BTW!)
I remember going to Woolworth's as a kid and waiting outside while my mother shopped, exploring all the babies in an absolute sea of prams.
Although, technically that was not "an airing" for the babies, but "going to the shops."

I think it was. Mostly because at this time very, very few families owned cars - and almost none owned fridges - so shopping was done daily, and babies or toddlers were pushed in the pram - and because they were largish, (the prams, not the babies) they were left outside the doors of the shop.
Everyone did it. It doesn't happen anymore, though.
