Saturday Self-Challenge:negative or inverted photography

This was probably one of the most interesting challenges for me to date. First challenge was finding the right subject to photograph. The next challenge was to see if it would look good negative. Once I decided what image to use, I found that the contrast and color needed to be increased in order for the details to be seen better. I also applied the urbane effect by PicMonkey to give it a little more depth. I thought the colors were quite striking like this. Below is another version of this image cropped differently, another inverted shot of the same fish tank and an inverted photo of my front yard tree.

Happy Weekend, Ipernity Friends!

Peter G, Wierd Folkersma, Janet Brien, and 46 other people have particularly liked this photo

Whoa... the fish look great. What a good idea. That tree is pretty nice too. This was a fun challenge, Val, and it got me to finally try out GIMP. Thanks for that!

Fantastic, you found a perfect motif and made the colours pop which isn't easy with inversions!

Oh I love these pictures Val. What a great concept. Those fish certainly look as if they have a very nice tank to live in - interesting.

What an interesting project. I really like how yours turned out. I enjoyed looking at everyone's attempts at this challenge because to get a really nice result like yours, it takes time to experiment with the outcome. It really is a different way to think and how enlightening. Nice job!

I also wanted to say thank you very much for your discussion on b/w. I didn't have the problem of disliking b/w, since I have been a movie buff for my whole life. I learned as a kid with my father as instructor, why black and white creates a mood that color cannot. Some of my favorite movies are b/w (Mister Roberts, All About Eve, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Stalag 17, Rear Window, etc, etc) and I absolutely love appreciating movies in b/w. Likewise, I absolutely LOVE b/w photography...I too have followed strong street photographers who focus on b/w. It really is a fantastic medium. In my own photography, color is a critical element most of the time but I will occasionally create a b/w or sepia tone. Whenever I do, I'm very satisfied...it's not easy to do b/w well so when I pull it off, it feels great!

A search on my stream for b/w

I was thinking about this one...

It would be interesting to do a 50/50 challenge in b/w...
