S&DJR Remembered (4) - 30 March 2013

My pursuit of railway history continued today in Sturminster Newton in Dorset where the actual infrastructure of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR) has all but disappeared but the route and station are marked. This placard and piece of track are at the top end of Railway Gardens which were created when the cutting formerly containing the tracks was filled in to create a public space. The track is, therefore, much higher than it would originally have been. In the distance, on the left, is Streeters Carpets in Station Road. Although a newer extension is closer to the camera, the rest of the building is part of the former station.
