A classic looking machine Edna. Personally I used to get rather dizzy and queasy riding on carousels and roundabouts so from an early age avoided them. Nice to look at though - providing they were still!. HBM and happy new week.

Well, in that case this is one's perfect for you. A still picture and not a video...and you may look at it as long as you want without getting dizzy :-)
I didn't have that problem when I was younger (so I quite enjoyed riding carousels back then), but now I do. Old age, lol.

Der Karneval ist nur in Deutschland mit Aschermittwoch zu Ende. In Frankreich gibt es z.B. den bekannten "Carnaval de Nice" (dieses Jahr zu Ende am 25.2.), und in der Normandie den "Carnaval Alemanique" in einer kleinen Stadt (Bellême), der findet am 4. und 5. März statt. Und hier im Dorf laufen die Schulkinder immer so Anfang März verkleidet durch die Strassen. Andere Länder, andere Sitten....

Stimmt. Aber da ich in Deutschland wohne, ist es für mich halt so ;-) Aber ich bin eh nicht der riesengrossen faschingsfan (obwohl ich am faschingsdienstag geboren bin), da kommt's dann auf ein paar tage früher oder später auch nicht mehr an ;-) Als kind und teenager fand ich fasching ganz lustig, naja, besonders das verkleiden :-) Heute muss ich mich nicht mehr verkleiden, das bin ich eh schon die ganze zeit ;-)))

da ist aber gar nichts los!...und die Bude rechts ist auch geschlossen, also gibt es nicht einmal gebrannte Mandeln und Zuckerwatte!! du warst wohl um 7 Uhr morgens dort ;.))

Geduld, geduld. Das war entweder vor 7 uhr morgens oder nach 3 uhr nachts. So genau kann ich mich gar nicht mehr erinnern ;-)) Jedenfalls sind mir zu dieser zeit keine leute an den falschen stellen ins bild gelaufen!!

A beautiful carousel Edna, although it does not appear to be open yet. Is the lady waiting for it to start up?!! You have started a discussion here as it seems as if the ride goes around anti-clockwise whilst ours go clockwise. Is there a reason do you know? I see the base on the horses so do they just rock or do they go up and down like ours do? It is a lovely image anyway. I am just being nosy!!!

You're right, this does go anti-clockwise. I never gave it much thought (thanks for pointing it out!), but I suppose most of them I (trying to remember now) go anti-clockwise here. The only reason I can come up with is this: since you drive on the left side of the road just to make a difference, your carousels have to make a difference as well and therefore go around clockwise ;-))) Most of the horses go up and down though just like yours, even if that may sound disappointing now after all this difference making! ;-))

Oh, I don't mind your being nosy at all and I hope you don't mind me not having any meaningful but just silly answers to most of your questions! =)

What a sweet carousel Edna. I looked up Rose Monday and it sounds lovely. Our carnivals in Somerset are in November and the first is always in the town where Carol and Roger live.

As a kid Iused to enjoy carnival a lot because I was born on a Carnival Tuesday. Now I'm used to it (to my birthdate and to carnival)! ;-)) Well, here it's either in February or early March as it follows the Catholic tradition to enjoy a few crazy days before Lent ;-) November sounds interesting too, more like an Halloween aftermath if you can't get enough of it ;-))

In Dorset where I come from the Carnivals were in October and the one in my town was always close to or on my birthday, which is October 7th. I found that very exciting as a child and teenager :-))

Ah, so we're both carnival kids :-)) And of course that's exciting, Rosa, I know how you feel! :-) As a kid (and also as a teenager) I used to have carnival birthday parties and my school-friends had to show up in crazy carnival outfits on my birthday! Did you do that on yours, too?
And thanks for revealing your birthday, I think I'll be able to remember it because I have a good friend here whose birthday is on October 8 :-)
