...'The Royal oak - 1722'... Chesterfield - Derbyshire.

...'The Royal oak - 1722'... Chesterfield - Derbyshire.
In the very centre of the market town of 'Chesterfield' is the old inn ''The Royal oak'' Some details on the wall shield show - Built in the 12th.century is one of the oldest inns in England. It was formally a rest house for 'The Knights Templar' in the years of the holy crusades. Also used as a butchers shop and inn accommodation - the earliest known records show it to be an inn in 1722.
Pip'.. shows another angle - and a close up of the wall notice 'Shield'

Thanks Marie-claire... yes when we are in Chesterfield I always visit this old inn for a quiet drink away from the crowds... it's fascinating to sit and think of all the many visitors who have passed through the doors over hundreds of years.
Best wishes to you from David.. UK.
