The monument to 'Tip'
Pictured between the towers of the Derwent dam is this well known memorial to the Sheepdog ''Tip''
The inscription reads.
. ''In commemoration of the devotion of 'TIP'

The Sheepdog which stayed by the body of her dead Master..
Mr Joseph Tagg'.. on the 'Howden Moors for fifteen weeks..
from 12th.December 1953
to 27th.March 1954,

Thanks.. 'Joe'... I really must find the story of 'Greyfriars Bobby'... if it's interesting.. I'm in !
Btw.. huge numbers of the general public volunteered and searched the moors for weeks on end for 'Joseph Tagg' and 'Tip'... as the stone states... it was 15 weeks before they were spotted. It is assumed the dog survived by eating snow - for liquid and small animals.
