You'd expect the tin mines to be in granite--so-called "tin granites" contain cassiterite (tin dioxide, SnO2) as an accessory mineral. It's the usual ore mineral for tin. Such granites are rare worldwide--that's why the ancient miners came all the way to Cornwall from the Mediterranean!
