Nor had I, Ulrich but it's a good idea. Before, they simple blocked them up with a cement slab and 1,000s of bats died each time.

Every year there are stories of houses, gardens, etc disappearing down uncharted shafts. Yes, the County is riddled with them! Always best to stay on a path!

I have never seen them before Andy! Good idea!

Nor had I, Rosa until about 10 or so years ago. I could see that they were useful in preventing humans and animals from falling in but that was all, I thought. I only knew about the bats when I overheard a teacher with a group of schoolkids and he was explaining it. A few days later, by co-incidence, I read about it in a Cornwall magazine while waiting to get my hair cut! Now you see them all over Cornwall.
