Grand Haven Lighthouse

While in Michigan recently I had the opportunity to do some photography with my youngest brother. One of our excursions was to Grand Haven. Grand Haven lies where the Grand River and Spring Lake empty into Lake Michigan. There are piers on both sides of the channel at Grand Haven and both have lighthouses. In fact, the south pier has two lighthouses, the one shown here the outer of the two. The photo was taken from the North Pier and one of the insets shows the small light on the end of that pier. The other insets are of the inner lighthouse on the south pier, taken on a different occasion and another photo of the outer lighthouse.

You are so sweet to take a stroll through some of my pictures! All the comments, WOW! I wanted to reply to some of them here for some feedback!
Re: the mantid cases...now that you have seen them, you will find them yourself because you'll look for them subconsciously. Under edges of logs, attached at the bottoms of fences, on branches and bark...they are well-camouflaged but your clever mind will not rest now, until you can stare at one with your own eyes. Marvelous creations too. Strong and well-constructed, they do not break if you try to fold it in half, though bits will flake off. It's worth carefully taking one apart so you can see how its made. They are marvelous!
I don't know if you're aware that you can purchase mantid cases, just as you can buy ladybugs for the garden. I have done this a couple of times because the show is just astonishing!! If you're interested, here's a link to a website which sells beneficial insects: www.arbico-organics.com/product/praying-mantid/beneficial-insects-predators-parasites
The first time I bought one, I checked it fiendishly many times a day. One day...THE BABIES BEGAN TO EMERGE!!! OMSQUEEEEE!!!! You've just never seen anything so adorable in your life!!! Itty bitty mantids, perfect copies of the adults and every one a total badass ready to kill everything in sight! I couldn't believe the NUMBER of babies! (Would you just LOOK at these hatching babies? ARE YOU NOT IN LOVE?! Let us SQUEEEEE happily together as we watch! :D www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsFXHGIVWIQ )
Hard as it was to resist, I released them into our backyard where my ex and I lived. I was sure I'd be able to spot them easily so I didn't feel forlorn about setting them free.
LOLOL...I saw ONE on the first day...and that was all she wrote! Those guys are basically invisible, even when they are right there in front of your nose. I have seen a couple on our property here in Oregon and each time it's an enormous surprise because they are really big as adults...you SHOULD be able to pick them out. NO WAY JOSE, they are premier camouflage artists and change color to match where they stand. One of the most remarkable creatures I've ever had the pleasure to meet! :)
Greetz, Christien.
Chris10 club has addedI used to think that artificial exhibits like an insect or butterfly house, would be a joke and total waste of time. Isn't it nice to know that instead they are incredible experiences that give you life-long memories bringing back smiles and feelings of amazement to see so many cool critters close up?!
