Lake Michigan Sunset

Lake Michigan Sunset
I was at Little Sable Point with my brother and a friend to photograph the sunset and to do some astral photography when this was taken. Little Sable Point is a state park on the east side of lake Michigan near the city of Ludington.

This picture.

I could stare at it forever.

What beauty. What an incredible, breathtaking view of a sunset blocked by the silhouettes of trees. *sigh* The peace and serenity of this image with its wisps of grass, cobalt water, and the imagined sound of the waves hissing on the beach below...what bliss. An outstanding hum-dinger of a picture, Ron.

The lighthouse in silhouette with that insanely colored horizon, all anchored by the silhouetted brush...FAB-U-LOUS. The waves washing up on the shore, the shine hued by the glorious sunset--sooooo pretty! The gorgeously colorful catkins which tout the capital letter M to show off Lake Michigan. I'm standing next to your Aussie daughter in law and yelling, "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ISN'T THE OCEAN!!!" And finally, the subtle beauty and golden light in the last inset which show the sandy dunes going this way and that with a sapling overlooking it all. Such a presentation. I'm just so impressed. :)

(I'm going to do this letter in a couple of rounds since you wrote on several pictures! :) )

Reply to your comments on my Stump on Lost Creek Lake picture:

Glad you liked the stump, they are so great for anchoring an image and such fun to look at. I kind of had to climb into the bushes to get a good picture but the effort worked out! :) I agree too...had the stump not been there, the picture wouldn't be very interesting. I have some other views and yep, boring! :D

Yellowstone...mmm...what a place. I don't know if I mentioned my Green Tortoise W US National Parks tour that I did when I was 21...that was about a month after I got back from my 3-wk trip to Europe and when I got home I really wanted to do more travelling...it wasn't much money and my bakery job surprisingly allowed me the time to go! We went all over the place in a converted school bus with all the seats removed and a huge mattress that covered the whole floor, everyone leaning up against the windows. Mostly Euro backpackers, it was fun and bare-bones adventure!

Yellowstone was one place we visited and it was obviously amazing! Can't wait to go back. People just can't say enough about this place and though my visit was short, I remember how lovely it was. I look forward to spending at least a week there when we get to the area, such fun it will be.

You got to see a GRIZZLY mama and babies playing in the snow. O M G. You guys are so lucky and I do agree that your long trek was well rewarded with such a sight...for nearly an hour, that's just so cool. The dancing cranes, coyotes and wolf sighting must have been thrilling to say the least! All the names you rattled off, gosh...it's really something. And what I've heard and read as well.

And you know, regarding crowds, you and I both know how to suddenly have a park all to yourself. ASCEND. It's just boggling what a few feet higher does to the crowds. It utterly BAMBOOZLES us how allergic people are to exercise. Hey, it's fine by us...they can all stay down there, mooing and milling, we'll all just hike up a few feet to the serenity and silence of a park unmolested by the drooling hordes! The glorious thing is that trick works EVERYWHERE. Just Go Up!

When Steve and I went on our last motorcycle trip, we ended up in Yosemite and only had time to drive in and out again. Just enough time to be snagged by President Obama's visit...shut down the whole park for H O U R S. We were stuck in the parking lot for so long... looking at all of the people everywhere, we wished we could just climb above them all but on motorcycles, all we could do was wait. The silver lining, a glorious apology by Barack himself was that when we FINALLY got out of there, we hit Tioga Pass right at Magic Hour! We parked the bikes and all three of us (our friend is also a photographer) went crazy with our cameras. What a great time and well-worth the wait he had to endure.

How awesome that you guys got to visit 5 nature centers! That had to be great fun! Getting to see those TURTLES...oh Ron, isn't that the best. I ADORE them so much. I'm totally crazy about frogs and toads too...ok, let's just stop the list because I'm crazy about every animal... eh...you can cross hyenas off there...oh and non-nematode worms...no thanks...oh and you may keep the cockroaches too. Other than that, LET ME AT THEM! :D

Glad to hear that the clean up and shoring up of all things home is coming along well. It's a job, esp after a while away for sure.

Meh...just looked at the forecast. We'll be leaving on our 10-12 day coast trip on Wednesday...and it will be raining from then until the end of time, apparently. I was worried to tell Steve but he didn't care! :D Personally, I don't mind having weather affect our trip. We'll get out when it's not raining. Otherwise I can write and read and work on my pictures! YAY! :)

I hope Neal is set up and having a nice time. You're a good papa. :)

Ok that's it for this installment. I'll have another one for the other letter you left on a dif picture! :)

And finally, here is my reply to your comment on my Lovely Meadow in Evening Light picture! :)

How lucky am I to get such attention from you?! :) It's always a highlight to learn what you're up to and your feelings about things! :)

Thank you very much for your help in identifying the flower that Bumbles is chilling out on! The uncropped picture showed the leaves of the False Solomon's for sure. However, the flowers weren't really huge so I'm going to say that it was a normal False Solomon's Seal.

I got a fun surprise though! When Steve and I went on the walk which took us over the bridge I photographed Steve on, I found a spiky white flower which I got decent pictures of but I wasn't going to process because at first glance they look like False Solomon's. NOPE! You got me thinking about the leaves and when I was looking in my Wildflowers of Southern Oregon I realized that those were another kind of flower entirely! "Sweet After Death" in fact, how cool is that?! :)

I am happy you liked the bee picture...the ISO was horrendous and I wanted to see if I could get a reasonable result if I used it as an inset. I'm really happy with it, given the stupidly high grain. I'm playing around with auto ISO and I'll need to do some adjusting because 12k+ ISO is just stupid. I got away with it in that picture but there are far too many pictures I took which are tear-jerker tragedies because of the high ISO. Oh well, part of my education as I fool around with settings.

Ohhhh, you saw and Evening Grosbeak, they are sooooo lovely!! Fun to hear about the humming birds too, I adore them.

The heat. Same here, ugh. And then, next week it's going to dump rain on all of us for nearly 10 days if the forecast is right. We'll be on our coast trip (as I'd mentioned) but all will be cozy and nice. I loved what Steve said, "Would you rather be stuck in the house in the rain or stuck in the RV on the coast in the rain?" Heh...

We have camas blooming right now too, all along our seasonal stream. They are so pretty! The desert parsley is about done, the death camas is in full bloom! We don't get segos here but they are on the table rocks I believe. I do know what you mean about hating to miss flowers...it's really rough to NOT take pictures but I'm getting better about letting myself know it's ok to just enjoy them without taking pictures! :)

Re: taking it easy and relaxed...yes, I've been heeding your advice and the same from others and it really is just so much better. In the end, who cares if you got somewhere after rushing forever to get there? I mean...I'm the first person to admit that I am always trying to do too much. Now that I'm slowly dialing the Overachiever control down, I'm really understanding why everything is more satisfying and enjoyable when you don't do Tasmanian Devil 110% of the time. :)

Ok I'm out! I hope you guys had a nice evening! :)
