Platanthera huronensis

Platanthera huronensis
This, the Green Bog Orchid, was photographed in the area of Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta. It is one of the difficult-to-identify and small-flowered green orchids that are common in the Northwest. One of the insets shows the whole plant and the others show some closely related Bog orchids.

How lovely, Ron! What fun it is to find an orchid. I imagine that this still remains a delight to you after all these years of hunting for them--each is so special. Your pictures of these understated beauties are really super. I especially love the second inset with the pure white blossoms but each image is very nice, showing the subtle difference between species.

Sorry I didn't have any time to visit you while we were away on our trip to Upper Klamath Lake... are you two still back east or heading back now? I need to go back through my pictures to find out where we left off, heh! :)

*tiptoes away for a few minutes to flip through pictures*

Ah yes, here we are! On my Mariposa Lily (I'll check others to see if you commented too...and if so I'll add to my comment here!) :) (and by the way...I sure hope I didn't already reply to your comments...*blush*...)

Glad you liked the Mariposa Lily pictures...I just looked them up (you did too I think!) and yep they do grow in Washington but I'm not sure if they are where you live. Looks like there are a number of different species, I would dearly love to find all of them, such lovely flowers.

LOL your comments about low-light conditions being hard to deal with and also being a common situation for orchid species...yeah...mushrooms...orchids...same difference. *high five* I cannot survive without a flash when it's dim lighting. The noise becomes intolerable or you MUST have a tripod, blah blah. It's very challenging to say the least! :) I'm such a brat about tripods though. I hate them so much. I'll deal with a monopod but man...tripods...omg. Steve and I have very different ideas about proper technique and I drive him batty. He likes to be methodical and slow and perfect and right. I say TAKE THE DAMNED PICTURE AND GET ON WITH IT! LOL...that's why he'll come back with 6 subjects and a zillion exposures at every f-stop and blah blah blah...and I'll come back with tons of subjects and yet, I get at least 3 different apertures of each subject...But you know, everyone approaches photography in their own way and Steve gets some really awesome pictures with his methods! I just can't help the fact that I'm a rabid Tasmanian devil that drank 10 espressos and can't sit still! :D (The mere idea of sitting in a bird hide waiting for birds to come...BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH...um...no. :D)

You'll have to tell me if you visited Lake Michigan, I bet that's a lovely place. I'm glad the wedding went well...burgers at the reception?! :D SIGN ME UP! :D
