Catherine Creek Natural Area

Catherine Creek Natural Area
This was taken in the Catherine Creek Natural Area on the Washington side of the Columbia River. The tree in the foreground is a Ponderosa Pine, most of which are dying in the area from an outbreak of the Five-spined Ips Beetle, and the mountain in the background is Mount Hood in Oregon.

A lovely scene, Ron. A few years back we took the Canadian Pacific train trip and were amazed by the damage the beetles were causing to the pines - apparently as a result of climate change bringing warmer winters.

A beautiful scene. What a shame about the tree. We have Asian Longhorn beetles that are invading the areas. Some cities have cut down all of their trees in an attempt to stop them.

So sad about the pines. Many here suffered in the same way. Mine so far have been spared.

Beautiful view
