Snow Candle

As is usually the case the snow was heaviest at the top of Kulshan Ridge and the snowfall of the night before, combined with a windless day, produced these remarkable snow-covered trees. They are very beautiful when snow-covered but can also be deadly. Snow this deep (15 feet) can produce areas of loose snow around the trunk of a tree called a "tree well." These tree wells are very dangerous and people who do fall into them often die before they can be rescued or disappear and die if they are alone.
