Painted Turtle

This turtle is very common across the USA and southern Canada but always a nice find. It is the Painted Turtle, Chrysemys picta. This example was photographed in western Michigan. We were camped with family along the Thornapple River and one of the children found it. We managed to get a few photos before he dived back into the river.
