We found this Long-toed Salamander in our garage, brought it in for some photos and then carefully released it. The green (sometimes gold or orange) mottling on its back is visible in this photo.

I am not completely certain of the ID on this Salamander that my grandkids found and brought to me, but I think it is a Long-toed Salamander (note the third hind toe). If I've mis-identified it I'd appreciate a correction.

This turtle is very common across the USA and southern Canada but always a nice find. It is the Painted Turtle, Chrysemys picta. This example was photographed in western Michigan. We were camped with family along the Thornapple River and one of the children found it. We managed to get a few photos before he dived back into the river.

We found the toad near our back door and both took photos. Its Latin name is Bufo boreas.

Photographed by my wife in the shallow ponds we explored for a rare orchid near Silver Lake in the Jackson Wilderness. I believe this is correctly identified as the Columbia Spotted Frog, Rana luteiventris.

While in the area of Medical Lake west of Spokane we saw this turtle crossing a rather busy road and stopped to rescue him. When we saw how beautiful he was we also took pictures, though much of his beauty is on the underside of his shell. His yellow-striped head and legs and a hint of the red and black marking on his shell can be seen. We left him at the side of nearby pond and found out later that he is a Painted Turtle, Chrysemys picta. There are more pictures of him including a picture of his underside at the link below.

We photographed this lovely little creature in Sharpe Park near the wetlands area of the park. He was very amenable to our attention and did not seem at all disturbed by our efforts to take pictures. He is also known as the Pacific Chorus Frog and his latin name is Psedacris regilla. These tiny frogs are able to morph from brown to green over a period of time to suit their environment. The two pictures here show the different colors.
