Lyall's Mariposa Lily

Calochortus lyallii is a rather common spring wildflower in drier areas of eastern Washington, but always a delight to find. It is less than a foot (30cm) tall and has several of these intricate and beautiful flowers. This example was photographed on a wet morning in Derby Canyon near Peshastin, Washington.
I apologize for the delay in returning comments. We are visiting our handicapped son in eastern Washington and entertaining a grandson from Indiana and spent yesterday orchid hunting and fossil hunting in northern Washington.
