Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor)

Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor)
This plant is called Yellow Rattle or Little Rattlebox because its seeds rattle in the inflated calyx (the green balloon-like part of the flower) after it is finished blooming and the flower heads dry up. Early tomorrow morning we leave Edmonton for a week's backpacking in Mount Robson Provincial Park. This will be the last picture I post until we return. No phone, no internet, just the two of us and the trail.
