Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor)

This plant is called Yellow Rattle or Little Rattlebox because its seeds rattle in the inflated calyx (the green balloon-like part of the flower) after it is finished blooming and the flower heads dry up. It was photographed along the Yellowhead Highway in central British Columbia. This photo and others of our trip can be seen at: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/07/british-col....
Early tomorrow morning we leave Edmonton for a week's backpacking in Mount Robson Provincial Park. This will be the last picture I post until we return. No phone, no internet, just the two of us and the trail.
