Cathead spider

Cathead spider
Araneus gemmoides. It has now made its 3rd web after I ran into the first two. This time it is located higher under the eaves!

Actually, it is whatever this site lists as their number 6, though their number 6 looks unlike cat-faced spider pics elsewhere on the web. So no help here. Sorry.

Yes, that's it! I assume the cat-face (or cathead in other sources) species has some variation depending on region. Thanks for the link, Smiley!

"Araneus gemmoides, commonly known as the Jewel Spider...and Cat-faced Spider... is a common outdoor orb-weaver spider found in the USA and Canada. They are considered harmless and have low-toxicity venom. A. gemmoides are useful natural predators for insects.
