... well, probably no one I knew actually rode on a manure spreader, but rode on the tractor pulling it ... but also, a dangerous place to be for kids: 60 years ago, my neighbor (now pushing 70) got his sleeve caught in the tractor's PTO (power-take-off) and lost his arm ...

Ooh, I've heard those stories and my mother (S. Dakota ranch) knew a boy who was run over by a thresher and died. I certainly hope no kids rode on manure spreaders, but some may have found a way to perch on the edge of the trailer. My uncle said he sat on the frame of a discer a few times. A hay baler was a good place to lose an arm, too.
