I had two grandmothers (funny, that!) . One was an indifferent cook but with 2 standout recipes (lemon chicken and gently poached freshly caught wild salmon), the other could make cheese sandwiches and not much else. Fortunately my Mum, apart from being a reasonable gardener, is a natural cook and I learned from her. Phew!

Wow - two! Oh, I could eat poached salmon every day.

My maternal grandma was a fabulous farmer's wife cook. My paternal one - well, a typical dinner might be a chicken just barely cooked, boiled potatoes (just boiled, that was it!) and canned corn. She baked the weirdest, flavor-free cookies I've ever come across. Her cooking has always been fodder for family jokes, but not in front of Dad!
