Diane Putnam club has replied to Pam J clubAh, just looked it up. This is from the Wikipedia article about it: Monterey cypress is one of the parents of the fast-growing cultivated hybrid Leyland cypress, the other parent being Nootka cypress.[5]
Interesting! I have to say I'd prefer a Leylandii hedge to the pink, naked man in his garden. But, they are certainly not appropriate for the typical yard! Arbovitae are the ornamental variety, so are more well-behaved.
