Pam J club has replied to Sylvain WiartDiane Putnam club has replied to Sylvain WiartI'm not sure I can explain why "foot" is correct in this case, but I'll try. 70 foot scales describes the object. If someone asks the man operating the scale, "How long is your scale?" he would answer 70 feet. (Or, an 'old country boy' would use the colloquial, "70 foot.") If a tourist from the city does not know what that thing is and asks the man, "What is that the trucks are driving on?" the man will say "That's a 70 foot scale."
Languages are complicated!
