Sawdust cyclone

Sawdust cyclone
About 5.5' in diameter at its widest point and about 7' long. An enormous chunk of rust. From "Wood Burners", by Daniel Mihalyo, Princeton Architectural Press:

"Their function was to funnel planar shavings and particles of sawdust into the burner. These particles were blown through a pipe into the cyclone from the mill itself."

The sawdust pipe coming from the mill can be seen in other photos in this series.

They could have sold these as sculpture. I dunno about Oregon, but in Toronto a developer would be allowed to add a few storeys to their building for putting a nice work like this out front. This is also more interesting than the stuff that gets put in front of a lot of buildings here, too.

I think they're amazing and there aren't many left in the US northwest. BC used to have a lot of these wood burners, too, and I heard from a member living there that they're almost gone. Yes, these would make wonderful sculpture, wish I had a big yard to put one in!

I have to agree as well...................bung this on a plinth outside a plinth and stick it the middle of a shopping centre and people will love it as high art..!!

Meanwhile, it's a beautifully rusty lump......and very photogenic. Well taken Diane.

Sorry Diane. You're assumption is corect. Here is just one of the dictionary definitions of the word Bung:

"To put or throw (something) somewhere in a careless or casual way."

It never occurred to me that you may not have heard of it..........every day is a school day on here isn't it?

I misled you for the purpose of comedy. Lame comedy. I have seen the word "bung" several times. That is thanks to my British photography friends here and on another photo site and also thanks to reading. Believe it or not I even have a couple of real-life British friends! Ha - shocking!
