Der Goldschmiedebrunnen erinnert an die Blüte der Augsburger Goldschmiedekunst. Er wurde 1912 eingeweiht und befand sich damals näher an der St. Anna Kirche, wann er an den obigen Platz versetzt wurde, ist unklar.

Das Brunnenwasser sprudelt aus vier Kupferröhren und acht Delphinköpfen in das Brunnenbassin, das, wie die Brunnensäule, aus Kirchheimer Granit gefertigt ist. Die lebensgroße Goldschmiedefigur stellt einen jungen Gesellen vor, der einen Goldpokal in der rechten Hand hält und in der fein getäfelten Tracht seines Handwerks auftritt. Sein Blick richtet sich auf die Goldschmiedekapelle an der Kirche St. Anna gegenüber. Der Pokal soll eine Nachbildung des kostbaren Metzgerzunftpokals sein. Weil er vergoldet war, wurde er immer wieder gestohlen und ersetzt.
Im II. Weltkrieg transportierte man die Brunnenfigur als so genannte "Metallspende" ab, jedoch wurde sie glücklicherweise nicht eingeschmolzen. 1950 wurde sie auf einem Hamburger Schrottplatz gefunden und konnte unversehrt an ihren Ursprungsort zurückgebracht werden.
Im Rahmen der Umbaumaßnahmen in der Innenstadt wurde der Brunnen 2014 erneut umgesetzt und steht jetzt wieder an seiner ursrünglichen Position, näher bei der St. Anna Kirche, die obige Ansicht wird es also so nicht mehr geben!

During the WW II the fountain sculpture was removed as so-called "metal donation" but fortunately it was not melted. In 1950 it was found on a scrap yard in Hamburg and was unharmed returned to its original location.
As part of the renovations in the downtown area ​​the fountain was in 2014 again shifted back to its original location, closer to the St. Anne's church, so this view is no longer available!
