Exploring the Dark Peak.

Exploring the Dark Peak.
A hike around Mam Tor gives us an impression of the heights here. We were ourselves on that crowded hill only last year.

The Peak District of Derbyshire is subdivided into three sections:
Dark Peak: Located in the north, east, and west of the district. Dominated by gritstone moorland, creating a rugged landscape. Includes areas like Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District.

White Peak: Located in the central and southern areas of the district. Characterized by limestone, with rolling valleys, deep gorges, and sparkling rivers. Includes areas like Dovedale and Monsal Head.

South West Peak: Rolling hills and farmland

Enjoy the day.

Some good walking around here. Kinder Scout is in fact only over the the other side of this pointed hill. Glad you liked it.

Easy to see how this peak got its name...............it does look dark and and a bit gloomy. Viewed large it comes to life and you can see several walkers around, and a couple of trees and some steep paths.

An interesting shot Herb, which probably needs some sunlight to show it at it's best!

Agreed Keith. I did hesitate to put this here as it is a bit on the flat side. As I say to many people interested in landscapes "light is everything". Glad you found it interesting though.

Thanks David. Yes, a splendid area for exploring, especially when the crowds have gone.
