The Broken Road

Our short trip to the county of Derbyshire sets us outside the village of Castleton and the Mam Tor ridge of the Peak District.
Up to 1979 this was the A625 road west of Castleton. This section was built on shale and loose ground below Mam Tor, known locally as the 'shivering mountain'.
Landslips occurred causing periodic closures of the road to repair the damage. Eventually it was decided that the road could not be economically repaired and it was permanently closed to traffic.
Enjoy the day.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Colin Ashcroft clubI heard about the possibility of the Snake Pass being closed recently. That would kill day trips to places like Dewent Reservoir and Castleton for me. It would make it a great walking path though!
Cheers. Herb
