Stac of Glencoul

Stac of Glencoul
A look across the Assynt Loch Geann Dunh to this fabulous Stac. I am stood at a place which I think is surely one of the most scenic in Scotland.
The Stac (Stack) is 497m high and the Glencoul thrust, brings the older Precambrian gneiss up over the Cambrian quartzite along Loch Glencoul.

The imposing landscape and menacing clouds on their own would make this a very dark and melancholy image...........but it's been saved from that by that gorgeous band of light sandwiched between the land and clouds, which has transformed the whole scene making it quite lovely.

Beautifully captured Herb!

Again Herb'... your 'all important light' really stands out here.. the size and scale of the mountains really stand out due to the shading... a full sun day would not have brought out the dramatic awesomeness of the scene.. marvellous.. Cheers from Dj.

Oops, looks like I missed this way in 2022. You are right in as much, the light is everything. Even with this, I think things could have been far better given a different season and weather conditions. Very happy you liked it.
