There is Ulrich and its is wide open from where I am standing. Clear seas to Turkey for the wind to come from.

Really beautiful, Herb. I know we have junipers in Italy, but I think I never saw one, or I did not know it was. The berries are needed for sauces and also to make gin.

Nice to see you again Daniela. A lovely tree to see and photograph and as you say it is very useful too. This was in a field of crops and so might well have been grown especially for its popular berries.
Further research as shown me: "The spicy, aromatic, dark berries of the juniper tree can be used fresh or dried, crushed or whole, to flavour casseroles, marinades and stuffings and complement pork, rabbit, venison, beef and duck. They can also be used in sweet dishes such as fruitcake. Juniper berries also provide the main flavouring for gin." All this as well as a herb in certain medicines etc. : It is also used for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney and bladder stones. Other uses include treating snakebite, diabetes, and cancer. Some people apply juniper directly to the skin for wounds and for pain in joints and muscles. The essential oil of juniper is inhaled to treat bronchitis and numb pain.
