A wonderful winter scene, Herb! At the moment the rain has changed a bit to snow, but it's still very, very wet. It will probably not be enough for such a beautiful atmosphere as in the picture.

Madrid is always much colder than the UK in winter. It has a continental climate and sits on a high, windswept plateau (it's the highest capital city in all Europe). So no, it's thick winter woolies, and only venturing outside if absolutely necessary. Still, the log fire brings cheer and was a pleasing addition to the prezzie-giving just now! Unlike most Spanish families, they abide by prezzie-giving on Christmas morning (out of deference to my sister) rather than on the Feast of Kings in 10 days' time!
Re: Brexit, I download the Times but haven't been able to read it yet so don't know any details. Of course, we are all anxiously waiting to see how it will affect expats! The whole concept of Brexit fills me with disgust, but you're right, a deal is better than a no-deal!
