Yes, I was thinking the same thing. This butterfly, whatever it correctly is, has had a rough time. It is the end of summer and it may not live much longer.

I have to check our the Kaufman guide. I have three, but non are as complete as I would like.

Beautiful photos of this swallowtail. Are swallowtails more susceptible to wing damage than other butterflies or is this only my impression?

At this time in late summer many butterflies loose parts of their wings, but the larger ones more so than the small butterflies.
