Pretty pansies, and I know the chives and rhubarb will taste great in a meal someday. (Actually, I think I saw someone eating pansy flowers one time.)

Yes, pansies look beautiful on a salad, but they don't have much flavor. I like violets just as much on salad, they also make a great snack along the trails, slightly sweet. I have a book of eatable wild flowers and plants, that's where it tells me about the trail snack.

The clump of chives is three years old. I like cutting it before it flowers, so it stays small and tasty. My favorite use for chives is in sour cream with freshly boiled potatoes, parsley and butter. When I was a child, that used to be one of my favorite lunch dishes my grandmother used to make.

Um die Bezeichnungen in Deinem Titel zu uebersetzen, musste ich teilweise raten, der Kommentar von Roland half mir einwenig dabei.

Daß Rhubarb im deutschen Rhabarber heißt, war noch einfach. Stiefmuetterchen und Schnittlauch (Chives) konnte ich mir aus dem Kontext erklären.

By the way: Pellkartoffel zu Quark (mit Schnittlauch) ist was ganz Feines :-)

Ja, genau, Volker. Ich hab es als Kind auch sehr gerne gegessen. (Ich vergesse immer, dass ich auch an meine deutschen Bekannten hier denke sollte.)

Ich hatte drei Jahre lang auch Thymian, Basilikum und Bohnenkraut in diesem Beet, aber der Rhabarber braucht jetzt sehr viel Platz, und der Thymian war so riesig geworden, dass ich ihn im Herbst verplanzt hatte. Nun kommen nur noch ein paar Marigolds hinzu, die nach dem Muenchener Duden als Studentenblumen benannt sind (kannte den Namen ueberhaupt nicht).Sie halten Hasen aus dem Beet. Vor vielen Jahren hatte ich einen grossen Gemuesegarten und aussen herum hatte ich auch immer eine Doppelreihe der Blumen gepflanzt und die hielten die vielen wilden Hasen aus dem Garten fern.
